When 'RD' means Running Day!
by eugene
RD for some means Rest Days. However, rest doesn't equate to inactivity; it's an
active recovery process. I associated RD to mean Running Day to start the transformation in my mind by using rest days to engage in mental conditioning, visualizing the next
run, setting goals, and reflecting on past achievements. Hoping that by adopting a "running day" mindset helps maintain focus and motivation,
ensuring that our mental strength is as finely tuned as our physical
endurance.
I believe that running is a holistic journey that involves physical exertion and mental resilience and the most challenging part of it is when and how to start.
In the beginning of 2023, I observed weight gain and encountered shortness of breath when climbing a footbridge, along with fatigue during a walk of less than 200 meters around the village. My husband and I attributed these changes to reduced physical activity during the pandemic and acknowledged that we were both dealing with a lack of motivation and energy – essentially, we found ourselves in a phase of laziness (i.e., physical inactivity). However, this situation cannot persist; we must find a way to overcome it.
We initiated the practice of tracking our steps, i.e., from 5000 to 10000 steps in a day, leading to increased
motivation and a heightened sense of challenge. Subsequently, virtual
runs became a part of our routine. Each step has been deliberate, with a
more calculated and realistic approach to setting and achieving goals.
We joined the PinoyFitness Community, and as of now, we have earned 16 badges for
completing virtual runs, covering a total distance of 630 kilometers and
still counting. Thanks to the reliable Strava GPS Running App by helping us map our progress. Also, worth mentioning is the Girl Power Virtual Run in March, which was our FIRST completed 5k virtual run.
For us, running is not just about race days or achieving personal records; it's a
journey of continuous improvement. Transforming into a more active lifestyle means embracing the entire process—the highs and lows, the progress
and setbacks, the sprains and strains. It's about understanding that every step, contributes to the larger narrative of our running journey - towards a healthier lifestyle, to the joy and fulfillment that it brings where each stride not only propels us forward in our running journey but also strengthens our relationship and helps us realize our mission and purpose with every step.
Aja, fighting!
Thank You Lord for the strength!
